Large Pet Snakes: A Few Important Tips

Once the family has decided to have large pet snakes in their home it is always advised to get large pet snakes that can be fed easily, tame easily and taken care of easily. Even though they need not have to be fed often, the pet owners should be prepared to feed other animals such as rats and mice as a whole prey. Some of the important factors that needs consideration before purchasing or adopting large pet snakes includes considering the behavior or temperament of the snakes, their feeding habits, average adult size and their health condition under captivity.

Some of the large pet snakes which are suitable for the beginners include the kingsnake, corn snake and ball pythons. Corn snakes are also known as the red rat snake, since they have maize like design on the bellies resembling corn they are known as corn snakes. They are very popular as pet snakes are very docile, very rarely grow beyond six feet in length and are very easy to care and handle. Corn snakes can be got in various patterns and colors.

King snakes too can make good pets. They grow to the maximum of six foot, can be easily tamed, can be healthy in captivity and also eat well. Ball pythons curl into tight balls when they get stressed or nervous. They are very gentle and curious snakes. They are very affordable to buy, live for a longer time and have good temperament, hence is a very popular large pet snake.
