Some people may contemplate whether dogs really need apparels. Yes, is the answer because there are many reasons why a dog needs apparel?
First reason is that dogs feel cold in cold weather like humans and hence have to be protected from the weather to keep them warm. Then, there are dog owners who would like to dress up their dogs to look fashionable and cute. But the need for wearing clothes for dogs really depends upon the breed of dogs.
For instance, small dogs like Chihuahua lose heat quickly and easily and hence a sweater would be essential in winter season and the breed of dogs that have a lot of fur on them do not need to be protected in cold weather. Also, dogs that are under medical protection may need some kind of apparel on them. Some breed of dogs like Siberian husky and Saint Bernard are acclimated to very cold weather and do not need apparels in all kinds of weather.
But if the need arises to buy dog apparel, the things that have to be considered are obviously, the size of the apparel and the material. The size of the apparel has to be just right so that the dog is comfortable in it and the clothes serve the purpose.
Some large dogs may be very active and the dog cloth must not be a hindrance for their activities. Materials like nylon or cotton would be better for dog apparel so that heat will not be trapped onto the body of the dog. Instead, it would allow the dog’s coat to breathe. Polyester must be avoided. But, more importantly, the dog must be made to get used to wearing the apparel quite often so that they feel comfortable.
